MY JOURNEY

about me & what I do

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Certified School Counselor for over two decades working in schools, I have always worked with children through traditional talk and play therapy.  The past few years I have been feeling as though it just wasn't enough…these kids needed more…a different means of working through their big emotions that they feel so deeply in their little bodies.  As I found my own practice of yoga changing the way I experience life, it hit me one day…I need to do this with kids! So, I started my journey of helping children shine their light through yoga. I became a Certified Children's Yoga Teacher trained through Radiant Child Yoga, and furthered my training through Asanas for Autism and Little Flower Yoga.

I am so truly grateful to discover that I can blend my extensive clinical experience, nurturing therapeutic skills, and my own passion for meditation, yoga, and mindfulness to offer children and teens the empowering opportunity to cultivate resilience as they meet challenges in life.  I believe each child is on their own path and has unlimited potential.  Through a thoughtful combination of creating a safe space to talk, movement in our bodies, and focus on the magic of our breath, each child has the ability to bloom.

The mission of Breathe & Bloom Therapy is to help foster well-being, and enable children to meet the stresses of their world with presence, self compassion, and open mindedness.

TALK THERAPY

Therapy for children thru teens is much the same as therapy and counseling for adults: it offers a safe space and an empathetic ear while providing tools to bring about change in thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.  Through emotional and goal oriented support, psychotherapy can help reduce symptoms, provide insight, and improve daily functioning.

Children Praying

MEDITATION, YOGA & MINDFULNESS

The practice of meditation, yoga and mindfulness for children embraces the same philosophies as for adults, just with a greater element of fun and playfulness. Infusing meditation, yoga and mindfulness as part of the healing process, our children can be better equipped with the self-regulatory tools to needed to navigate their inner and outer world, thus building confidence, coping with stress, and relating to uncomfortable or challenging moments.

FAMILY COLLABORATION

As children don't function in isolation, the relationship of the child within the family system is explored.  Through a non-judgmental lens, family support is a valuable component offered to provide tips and strategies on how caregivers can support  their child's journey at home.

MEDITATING? YOGA? MINDFULNESS?  HOW IS THAT THERAPY?

The goal of traditional therapy is to help a child manage their symptoms so that their daily functioning can improve.  The ancient science of Meditation, Yoga, and Mindfulness is about bringing balance to our minds, bodies, and spirit.  As these practices have grown in popularity in the western world, so too has the research on the benefits of these practices on children's mental health.  Recent neuroscience research confirms that these practices can actually change the physical structure of the brain, training it to work in more positive and productive ways.   Incorporating these tools are a powerful complement to reaching that goal of improved mental wellness.
